Hanover, PA (4/4/09) – The Famed 1/3 Mile Oval held an action packed show on a cool and windy April evening. Despite the winds, Skylar “Skyman” Felkner came out on top with is first ever 600 Micro win. In victory lane, Felkner was still waiting for his win to sink in, but was happy he held on to the lead. Felkner started on the pole and grabbed the lead over Tanner Hunsicker, Tyler Walton and Brian Racine. Felkner was challenged with lapped traffic before the halfway mark and battled with Tyler Walton for the lead. Walton passed Felkner going down the backstretch but Felkner nabbed the lead back in turn four to hold on to the lead.
Felkner ended his night with a several car length advantage over Tim Dietz who had a strong second place finish. Following Dietz across the line were Racine, Jimmy Brookens, and Walton. Mike Rutherford, fifteenth starting Robbie Kendall, Dave Feeser, Shane Lewis, and Mike Freed to round out the top ten.
Heat winners for the 31 600cc Micros were Racine, Felkner and Walton, and Bruce Ginther Jr. picked up the Consolation event win.
The 270cc Micro feature was dominated by Pete Skias until the fourth turn of the final lap. After the caution came out with 19 laps down, the top four drivers risked everything for the win. Todd Hoover narrowly picked up the win as he cross just before Skias, Bill Laughman and Richie Hartman came to the checkered.
Heats for the 30 270cc Micros were won by Mike Rutherford, Laughman and Nik Gower. Steven Cox picked up the Consolation event win.
Sean McAndrew started on the pole for the Sidewinder feature event and held on to pick up his first win at Trail-Way Speedway in the Sidewinder class. McAndrew entered lapped traffic with several car lengths of a lead over third starting Jared Hudson.
One lap later, on the 8th lap, McAndrew had a straightaway lead over Hudson. His lead disappeared when the red flag came out for Craig Myers’ flip in turns one and two. McAndrew then had the feature winner from the past two races, Brian Racine, behind him.
On the 19th lap, Racine went under McAndrew, but couldn’t make the pass stick and McAndrew held on for the win. Finishing behind Racine were Chad Hough, Shawn Seifert, and Joe Robertson. McAndrew and Mark Strickler won the heats for the 18 Sidewinders.
Tuesday (4/7), Trail-Way will host an Open Practice from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Next Friday (4/10), is opening night for the 358 Sprint Cars, 358 Late Models and Thunder Cars. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. and the gates open at 4 p.m.
Next Saturday (4/11), Trail-Way will host the 600 Pro Series, 270cc Micros, 1000cc Sidewinders, Scramble Cars and 4 and 6cyl Starlite Ovals. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 4 p.m.
