BRIDGEPORT, NJ (July, 23 2011) - On a hot summer night, Steve Bracall scorched the competition to win his second 600cc Micro-Sprint feature of the year. Megan Kay snared her first career checkered flag in the 270cc Micro-Sprint main event. The 4-Cylinder Stock Car race was captured by Josh Lovett.
After the original start of the 20-lap 600cc Micro-Sprint feature was aborted by Joe Kay’s flip, Steven Bracall took the lead on the opening lap and was followed by Eric Brobst and Luke Thomas. With one circuit completed, the red flag flew as Chris Panczner took a tumble following a multi-car tangle. When green flag racing resumed, the top three of Bracall, Brobst and Thomas remained intact as Lee Nardelli shifted into fourth place. Nardelli continued his charge to the front as he moved past Thomas to gain third on lap 5 just before the caution appeared for a slowing Kevin Massey. Bracall maintained his edge over Brobst on the next restart but the yellow lights were illuminated on lap 7 for a spin by Dan Massey. Bracall remained in front as action got back underway again. A twirl by Jim Tippin slowed down the racing once more with ten tours completed. On this restart, Bracall beat back a very strong challenge by Brobst to narrowly keep his advantage. The final yellow of the contest occurred on lap 11 as several cars including Bryant Davis, Tyler DeVault and Andrew Locuson were involved in a skirmish. When the green flag waved for the final time, Bracall kept the upper hand over Brobst again. In the final five laps, Bracall was able to gain some breathing room and he crossed the finish line ahead of Brobst. Nardelli wound up in third with Thomas in fourth and Sam Locuson in fifth. The heat winners in the 600cc Micro-Sprint division were Steve Bracall, Eric Brobst and Bryant Davis.
Megan Kay held off Charlie Lamanna to score her first career victory in the 20-lap main event for the 270cc Micro-Sprints. Kay led all twenty laps with Lamanna applying pressure during several phases of the event including the final two circuits. Behind the top two of Kay and Lamanna, Ernie Miles completed the race in third. John Blanda and Jonathan John completed the top five. Kay was the victor in the qualifying event.
Josh Lovett made his return to Bridgeport Speedway worthwhile as he was victorious in the 20-lap feature for the 4-Cylinder Stock Cars. Racing for the first time this season at the quarter mile speedway, Lovett grabbed the lead from John Crosby on lap 7 and held off Warren Stradley in the final laps for the win. Blake Silvestein, Crosby and Art Knapp rounded out the top five. Stradley won the 4-Cylinder Stock Car heat race.
