Kings Without Wings
Ken Wismer Jr. Wins Borgers TQ’s In Amazing Late Race Pass. Tom Hennessy Keeps Racking Up AllStar Slingshot Wins.
During the days of dirt at Borgers Speedway Ken Wismer Jr. was a semi regular who recorded one win in the 270 MicroSprint division. In recent years Borgers Speedway has not seen the Nazareth resident where Ken devotes a lot of time to saving people’s lives with the Upper Nazareth Township Fire Department. In the past few weeks Ken has reappeared at Borgers in the Metz Rides for Rent TQ and turning some rather quick laps. Ken’s return to action at Borgers all came together in what could be described as a “Story Book Ending” in one of the most thrilling races of the season parking the Metz Black Betty 01 in victory lane.
In Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/Wingless 600 Sprints Ken Wismer Jr. led the field to turn one followed by Austin Fehr and Jason Hentrich but it was Fehr in the lead coming out of turn two. By lap three Sheldon Iudicello moved into third spot getting by Hentrich. A lap four restart found Mike Fillbrunn making the pass on Hentrich for fourth. With Hentrich slowing considerably JT Davis moved into fifth place five laps later. As the battle for the lead raged between Fehr and Wismer, Davis continued his journey to catch the leaders taking over third place. Wismer continued to put intense pressure on Fehr and in a daring move with five laps to go roared into the lead. Once in front there was no catching Wismer as he screamed into Borgers Speedway victory lane followed by Fehr, Davis, Iudicello, and Joe Agnello. While Iudicello finished fourth overall Sheldon was the top finisher of the Wingless 600 Sprints.
In what has to be the greatest season of Tom Hennessy’s career Tom steered the “Pie” car to victory lane once again in AllStar Slingshot racing action. At the drop of the green it was Hennessy, Mike Moyer, and Jim Laubach with the “Hot Shoes.” Coming through the pack Mike Lapicki joined the hunt in fourth place. As Hennessy opened a slight lead a three car battle for second developed between Moyer, Laubach, and Lapicki. Lap fifteen Laubach made the pass on Moyer for second and with two to go Lapicki moved into third. At the finish it was Hennessy, Laubach, Lapicki, Moyer, and Taylor Eccles.
Joey Agnello Jr. won the Junior Slingshots.
