Jonestown, PA-It was a big night for two Linda's Speedway regular Micro Sprint drivers as both Greg Miller of Hershey and Tom Kohler of Leesport have had more than their share of bad luck throughout the 2010 season. On this night they had no bad luck and both drove their Micro Sprints to the winners circle for the first time this season. Miller becomes the 11th different winner this season in the RTS Chassis sponsored 270cc Micro Sprints while Kohler becomes the 13th different winner in the RTS Chassis sponsored 600cc Micro Sprints. The Sherry's Photos sponsored Tobias Slingshot 20 lap feature went to current point leader Gary Hieber as he drove to his fourth straight feature win and sixth of the season. Hieber now moves into a three way tie for the most career feature wins at the Linda's Speedway with Ryan Smith and Mike Glass all with nine feature race wins. Hieber also tied Brett Smith for the most wins in a single season with six. If Gary Hieber wins one more race this season he will stand alone as most career wins and most wins in a season. It would appear that this would probably be the last season for the Hieber Brothers in Slingshots and they are both already running in the SpeedSTR division. The Keystone Legends made their fifth appearance of the season and this time it was Tim Bauer picking up the big win to become the fourth different winner in 2010.
After hot laps and before the first heat race of the night a first for the Linda's Speedway took place as Glen and Laurie Lemley were married in victory lane.
The Keystone Legends were the spotlight division of the night as the drivers brought their cars to the front stretch for a special camera & autograph session prior to their 20 lap feature event.
Scott Spidle started on the pole of the 18 car Legend feature field and held the top spot the first five laps before giving way to Tim Bauer who started fourth. Once in front it was all Tim Bauer as he drove his #890 to victory lane for the first time in 2010. Two time winner this season Pat McDermott finished second with John Barsuglia third, Paul Rochelle fourth and Clinton Penkauskas completing the top five. Blaine Leppo, Justin Grim, Scott Spidle, George Abt and Todd McCollum rounded out the top ten. Brian Weitzel and Tim Bauer won the eight lap qualifying heat races. The Keystone Legends will return to the Linda's Speedway on September 17 and then for the final time in 2010 on October 1.
Greg Miller started on the pole of the 270cc Micro Sprint feature and held the top spot all 25 laps to collect his first feature win of the season with Ross Perchak second. Dane Tobias picked up his best finish of the season with a fine third place run with Richie Hartman fourth and Ed Kenderdine fifth. Finishing 6-10 were Nick Skias, Jesse Maurer, Jarid Kunkle, Tom Schearer and Dave Williams. Scott Gingrich, Ross Perchak, Ed Kenderdine and Brandon Heist won the heat races with Chris Kennedy and Jim Skias winning the Consolation events. Mike Glass and Jason Swavely both qualified for the feature but suffered mechanical problems while getting lined up for the feature event and did not take the green flag. Christi Sweigart was the only alternate ready to go so she made her way into the feature to replace Mike Glass but CJ Heining who was the second alternate was not at the staging area and ready to go so 23 cars took the green flag. Marty Gorr, Mark D'Agostino, Ryan Wilson and Brian Heist made their first starts of the season in the 270's. Brian Heist is the father of the regular 270 driver Brian Heist and he is not Brian Sr. so he was in the line ups as Brian "Dad" Heist. It was the first time that dad drove a race car and he is now interested in the possibility of getting himself a Slingshot.
Tom Kohler led many of the 600cc Micro Sprint feature races this season but never could keep the car together all 25 laps to find his way to victory lane. This week Kohler started second and not only did he lead all 25 laps he just ran away and hid from the rest of the field as the car ran perfect the entire distance to finally put Kohler in the Linda's Speedway victory lane for the first time in his career. Brian Carber finished second in a brand new Stallard built Micro Sprint #8c with Jesse Snyder third, Sammy LaMothe fourth and Zach Light fifth. Pete Skias back in the Gary Hunter #7H finished sixth followed by Ryan Wilson, Heath Hehnly, Ryan Greth and Jason Sechrist. Jesse Snyder, Heath Hehnly and Pete Skias won the 10 lap heat races. Kory Merkey made his first start of the season and finished just outside the top ten in 11th.
Gary Hieber drove the #56 Slingshot to victory lane after taking the lead on lap seven from Mike Glass to claim his fourth win in a row as he has become Mr. Smooth in the division this season. Hieber has become a smart race car driver over the last couple of years and is now making winning look so easy. Mike Glass finished second for the second time this season as he still looks for his first victory of the year. Alex Schoffstall, Brad Arnold and Justin Thompson finished 3-4-5. Alex Schoffstall and Mike Glass won the heat races. The Slingshots will return on September 10.
The Lebanon Valley 100 for the Slingshots that was to take place on Saturday, September 25 will now be 50 laps. The night will still be called the Lebanon Valley 100 and will feature 50 laps for the Slingshots as well as the Xcel 600 Modified. The Lebanon Valley 100 was a long time event held for the 358 Modified at the now closed Penn National Speedway. The Charger 35 lap Championship will also be held that night. Time trials will be held for the 600 Modified and Chargers as the Slingshots will go in dual heats instead of time trials. A few new twist for the Slingshot 50 will find the Pit Stop Challenge at halfway and will feature the first half of the cars the way they are running at halfway. Also new for the Slingshot event will be double file restarts with the exception of the final 10 laps plus all starts and restarts will be on the front stretch. Slingshot entry forms are available at the track or on line at lindasspeedway.com. The first 25 Slingshots to enter will park in the first row of the pit area so sign up today.
The Linda's Speedway will be back in action on Friday, September 3 and will feature the 600cc and 270cc Micro Sprints along with the Chargers and Xcel 600 Modified. Also on the program will be Kids Bicycle Races and Big Wheel races. September 10 will feature the 600 Pro Series in a special event along with the 270cc Micro Sprints, Chargers and Slingshots. The 600's will compete in a dual heat format with passing points to decide who will qualify for the feature event. Those that do not advance in the heat races will have one more chance in a "B" main. The drivers who compete in the 600's will earn 100 bonus points toward the Linda's Speedway track championship. The 270's, Chargers and Slingshots will be a regular point show.
