No One Asked, BUT…

Stan Yockey is one of the best and most raw talented race car drivers I have ever seen in any division of racing.

Per above, it is a shame that in Central PA we don’t get to see Stan Yockey, Kevin Bayer and Scott Swayer race on a regular basis.

Plaza Park in Visalia, CA is a track that is conducive to some of the best micro sprint racing in the country. It is awesome.

The ‘new’ Lanco (Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway) in Pennsylvania is the Eldora of the micro sprint world. It is awesome as well.

Trail-Way Speedway in Hanover, PA is the hardest race track to win a 600cc feature at in the country, period. You win there you can win anywhere.

The PRI Show in Orlando was not nearly as good as when it was in Indy. Orlando is not a racing town. I can’t wait till it moves back.

Brett Schonely is the micro sprint version of the NASCAR world’s Ron Hornaday. They are both the very best at starts and restarts. They both have many wins to there credit. Coincidence….I think not.

That being said, why is it so hard for ‘younger’ (I use that loosely, there are 20 somethings that are just as guilty) drivers to get lined up properly on starts and restarts? Is the educational system in this country that bad?

Per above, why is it that they are the only ones to ever contest their start or restart positions to officials as well?

This is why I am becoming more of the opinion that you should have a valid driver’s license to compete in micro sprints or just about any class above quarter midgets or go-karts for that matter. Above are just 2 examples, read Kevin Olsen’s article in the Feb. ’06 issue of Sprint Car & Midget for the main reason.

Not just to single out the young guys, the above examples are also 2 reasons why some 20 something year old drivers with valid licenses should have them revoked.

There is a noticeable difference between kids who come straight out of quarter midgets to race micros and the ones that made a stop in go-karting along the way or started in go-karts. Not all, but a good majority.

Promoters are their own worst enemy on far, far, far too many occasions.

Fuel Bladders should be made mandatory, for your own safety and everyone else’s safety as well – it is completely stupid to think otherwise.

A lot of people will agree that if micro sprint racing gave a Mr. Congeniality Award, Scotty Smith would and should win hands down. They don’t, so he should win the Sportsmanship of the Year award for life.

Tim Henry is a very, very, very close second.

Mike Dicely and Mark Stallard are two of the greatest innovators in micro sprint racing. Major Kudos to both! Neither is afraid to try something new.

Point handicapping is the main reason that a facility that utilizes this type of system will never see their car counts grow outside the norm. It prevents many racers from going if they don’t race there on a regular basis. Very Many! The competitors feel penalized before they ever go. Only touched upon the much larger issue which will be featured in an upcoming installment of ‘Atop the Trailer’ - stay tuned.

TRACK TIRES SUCK, PERIOD. And rules by sanctioning bodies that allow them do also. This is how they race in Communist countries and New Jersey. They help the racer in no way shape or form. There is no legitimate argument to make the facts change. Ditto on the car counts here also, or the lack there of.

Alcohol should be made mandatory as the only type of race fuel allowed to be run in micro sprints. All racing for that matter.

Full containment seats and HANS Devices should be made mandatory also.

Every European and a few Japanese safety manufactures are way ahead of American safety manufactures in overall quality, quality of materials used and craftsmanship. In particular, uniforms and apparel. Do your research if you don’t think so.

Another $10,000 to win race for micro sprints is being held in the Mid-West. It is a great thing and might be bigger than the one here in PA for logistical reasons alone. I would like to see a lot of PA guys go.

If Dirt Modified racing was the only type of racing there was, I would be a soccer fan.

Why is it that everyone named Brett who is a racer is called ‘The Jet’? Where is the originality these days? There is only one Brett ‘The Jet’ (actually, ‘The Corporate Jet’) unfortunately he does not race sprint cars.

Speaking of which, there are few cool racing nicknames anymore. Where have you gone Warren Ruffner?

Finally, Tony Stewart’s nickname ‘Smoke’ is about one of the most stupid racing nicknames I have ever heard. I don’t care about how he got the name. It sounds like he is some crack dealer from NJ. He should have stuck with the ‘The Rushville Rocket’ - Way Cooler!
